Boil Water Alert Lifted in Margate and Coconut Creek

The boil water alert that was issued after Hurricane Sandy all throughout Florida has been lifted in a variety of counties. According to CBS Miami, the advisory was announced after the hurricane when it was thought that the hurricane may have damaged water pipes and mains, allowing contaminants into the pipes. In the city of Margate, the boil water notice was ordered on Friday after some of the samples from the city wells tested positive for fecal contamination.

The rain and wind may have pushed fecal matter from animals into the water, which brought on the danger of bacteria and illness. The well where the water was tested was removed promptly, and the service was shut off. The water was tested for two consecutive days before the alert was lifted and residents were told that they can drink water without boiling it.

If your water has been contaminated with bacteria or with dangerous chemicals that pose a health risk, you need to contact the Florida Department of Environmental Protection immediately.
